Mesut Ozil reveals why he extended his stay at Arsenal
With adverse performances and shortcomings on the pitch swept aside, Arsenal completed a sensational January transfer window with a number of notable acquisitions in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, although what’s more profound is that the Gunners fought to retain one current star’s signature, that being none other than Mesut Ozil, of course.
The German metronome penned a 3-year contract renewal at the club which is supposedly worth a staggering £350k-a-week, a deal which would see him exhibit his creativity at the Emirates and beyond until 2021, ending months of obscurity which formally shrouded his future at the north-Londoners.
Ozil, before scrawling his initials on the dotted line once more, was nearing the end of his previous stint at Arsenal and could have left Arsene Wenger’s side for free in the summer transfer window, but after deliberating and mulling over his career prospectus, the 29-year-old took to social media – via a report provided by Daily Star – and elatedly exclaimed: “3 more years with Arsenal!
After gushing his deepest and sincerest emotions to his avid followers, Ozil ended the statement with a message which would bring a tear to even the hardiest supporter’s eye: “Once a Gunner, always a Gunner.” He closed.
With 4 goals and 6 assists to his name this season in 21 appearances thus far, many a ‘Gooner’ will be hopeful that he can improve further upon his standing record this term. However more appealingly, the former Real Madrid ace now has a few more years ahead of him to ensure that he racks up a heftier tally of personal accolades for his beloved and grateful employers.
