Arsenal & Tottenham Hotspur in hunt for German playmaker
|According to a report published by Daily Star, Arsenal and arch nemesis’s Tottenham Hotspur are both supposedly in the hunt for Max Meyer’s signature, and with the 22-year-old’s current contract at Bundesliga outfit FC Schalke 04 set to terminate in June this year, the robust playmaker could be available for free once the 2017-18 season comes to a close.
Although the two north-London counterparts are not alone in the quest for the German international, as it’s emerged that FC Bayern Munich and AC Milan are also allegedly eyeing up a swoop for his flourishing services in the summer.
In terms of the Gunners’ proposed interest, it’s said that Arsene Wenger is eager to identify a midfield recruit for the 2018-19 campaign which is capable of forming a partnership with Mesut Ozil, and as Meyer and Ozil are part of Joachim Low’s national fold, it’s natural to presume that the two craftsmen would form a formidable relationship in the Premier League.
Ozil, like Meyer, formally began his career at the Veltins Arena, so if Schalke’s ethic and philosophy to nurturing starlets has remained unaltered since ‘der Rabe’s’ time at the club’s coveted academy, Meyer should possess an attitude and disposition on the turf which is similar to Arsenal’s enigmatic and undisputed talisman.
For ‘Die Königsblauen’s’ senior fold, having joined the club’s youth set-up in 2009, Meyer has capably racked up 188 appearances in all competitions and has also notched 22 goals in the process, a record which will only increase as he continues to gain experience at the highest possible level.
Meyer is one of Germany’s brightest creative options, and due to his notable performances for Schalke, he’s managed to earn himself 4 international caps for ‘Die Mannschaft’ and it’s expected that he’ll travel with his country to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
