Danny Welbeck suggests inclusion in alternative attacking spearhead
|Danny Welbeck has suggested that he could be the man to compliment and partner both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in Arsenal’s attacking spearhead, instead of being considered as simply the two fellow strikers’ replacement on match-day after a scintillating Premier League display against Southampton on Sunday.
Two goals and an assist is what Welbeck contributed towards his team’s 3-2 victory over the Saints, and after previous months of desolate turmoil on the physio’s table through various debilitating spates of injury, the inexhaustible 27-year-old currently appears to be in fine fettle in a Gunners shirt, and he’s certainly ‘motivated’ to become a more predominant figure in Arsene Wenger’s future offensive blueprints.
“As you’ve seen, I can play with Pierre and with Laca,” he said, as per a report published by Metro.
“It is nice. It gives you that added motivation. The competition is there so you are going to improve and better yourself.
“I’ve had that throughout my whole career. Being at an academy where players come from all over the world and it is the same here, you are always going to have that competition. It is healthy.
“I know I can link up with plenty of the players in this team.”
‘Dat Guy’ didn’t look out of place alongside the north-Londoners’ bank-breaking duo at the Emirates. The England international’s blistering pace and resolute work ethic disrupted Mark Hughes’ rearguard’s composure and ultimately lead to his and his teammates successes in-front of the target.
With the 2018 World Cup just a matter of months away, it’s presumably an aspiration of Welbeck’s to make the ‘Three Lions’ final tournament cut, so if ‘Le Prof’ is as wise as his renowned status dictates, it would be a calculative arrangement to utilise the resurgent attacker’s searing services more frequently, now that his confidence is evidently soaring.
