Arsenal target will ‘definitely’ depart Bundesliga outfit in summer
|FC Schalke 04’s sporting director Christian Heidel has confirmed that May Meyer, a supposed transfer target of Arsenal’s, will ‘definitely’ depart the Bundesliga outfit in the summer, a statement that will alert a number of vying suitors in the hunt for his signature including Liverpool, AS Roma, FC Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.
Meyer’s an integral component in Schalke’s midfield and has been at the Gelsenkirchen-based club since the tender age of 14. But after allegedly rebuffing a substantial contract renewal offer from his current employers, an exit appeared to be on the cards for the industrious playmaker and now, thanks to Heidel, an imminent farewell appears fairly conclusive.
The 22-year-old will subsequently become a free agent once the 2017-18 campaign comes to a close and Heidel – speaking to the media (via Sports Mole) – indisputably revealed:
“Max Meyer will definitely leave Schalke this summer,
“We’re dealing with the situation very professionally. It’s all been very amicable.”
With the 2018 World Cup just a matter of weeks away, Meyer will be hoping that he’s earned the right to claim a seat on Germany’s plane, and given the record the young craftsman has accumulated over the course of his career at Die Königsblauen, Joachim Low would be ill-advised if he elected to not include him in his tournament squad.
In 192 first-team appearances for Schalke, Meyer has showcased his influence upon proceedings with 22 goals and 24 assists in all domestic and European competitions, a record which promises expansion as he continues to develop his qualities in the final third, perhaps, even, at the Emirates.
