Arsenal goalkeeper ‘closing in’ on summer departure

A report published by Goal – via Daily Star – suggests that Arsenal’s Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina is supposedly ‘closing in’ on a summer departure, with Argentine giants Boca Juniors allegedly in the driving seat to land his disregarded services next term.

With Bernd Leno and Petr Cech seemingly ahead of Ospina in the goalkeeping hierarchy at the north-Londoners, the 29-year-old will effectively be the club’s third choice stopper, and with that the chances of proving his worth to Unai Emery will become slimmer and slimmer.

Leno joined the Gunners from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee believed to be worth £20m, and as Cech is prepared to battle the 26-year-old German for the right to be the club’s undisputed No.1, Ospina will undoubtedly have to head for pastures new.

Ospina, after an accomplished 2014 World Cup campaign, penned a deal at Arsenal and it initially appeared as though he would compete directly with Cech for the starting spot, but his 4-year stint at the Emirates simply hasn’t lived up to expectation.

Speaking to DIRECTV earlier this year, Ospina openly admitted that he could have to leave Arsenal if he’s going to be recognised as a reliable first-team regular.

“I am open to everything,” he said.

“Today I give everything for Arsenal, I like to be successful here, but you start to contemplate every alternative depending on each situation.”

“I still have a contract, but as I say, I always like to have more opportunities, to have more continuity in the squad as every goalkeeper needs.

“Today, I am sharing my position with an excellent goalkeeper in Petr, but he knows that I like to play and I know he likes to keep playing, we have this competition between us, I just like to have continuity, I will think about the future at another moment.

“Today I live day by day, I don’t like to say anything about the future but i will make the most of every each training session and every moment at Arsenal.”
