Unai Emery’s Arsenal will play with ‘energy’ & ‘intensity’

Keen to calibrate a formidable collective of his own in north-London, Unai Emery expects his Arsenal set-up to approach every instance of the professional game with an imperious degree of ‘energy’ and ‘intensity’ and has also called for every squad member to exhibit their dexterity as frequently as possible.

The Gunners are currently in Singapore for the International Champions Cup, a pre-season tournament where they’ll face Europa League holders Atletico Madrid and Ligue 1 victors Paris Saint-Germain in preparation for the imminent 2018-19 Premier League campaign.

Emery’s men will face Manchester City at home in their opening domestic meeting on August 12th, an encounter that will undoubtedly push Arsenal to the limit, and the club’s studied Spanish tactician wants his entire fold to stand up to the challenges ahead with flair, tenacity and above all, confidence.

“Each match, you are looking for every player to transmit intensity, aggression, to show that they want to win and are prepared to work hard to win. We want to do that with style, with a personality, with protagonists on the pitch,” he conveyed to the press, via the club’s official website.

“We want every player to create things and find things when they’re on the ball. When we are without the ball, we also want to show ambition to recover the ball quickly.

“We want to demonstrate that not only in every match, but also in every training session.

“We want our players to be energetic, full of action with or without the ball and as protagonists on the pitch doing things.”

With the highly-anticipated tie against Pep Guardiola’s City almost within touching distance, Emery added:

“With all the energy of the players and the supporters, we know we can start the season with a big performance against a big team.”
