The heartwarming gesture Mesut Özil made for children in Brazil
Last weekend the German heroes from the 2014 World Cup triumph were celebrating the fifth year anniversary of their historical achievement.
German legends including Bastian Schweinsteiger, Jerome Boateng, Lukas Podolski, Mesut Özil and many others were celebrating their historic accomplishment on social media.
The post that caught the eye of the public was Özil’s. But why?
Prior to the 2014 World Cup, Özil had announced he was going to fund the surgeries of 11 children. After celebrating Germany’s fourth World Cup win, the 30-year-old subsequently announced he would fund 23 surgeries.
Fans were amazed by Özil’s amazing gesture. While the other players were celebrating their incredible success five years ago, Özil was reminding his fans about what is more important than the World Cup – healthy and happy children.
Özil is known for his outstanding football ability, but many seem to forget what a wonderful human being he is off the pitch too. Some now even refer to him as ‘the man with a golden heart;.
No matter what else the Arsenal star goes on to do to in his wonderful career, the people of Brazil will forever be grateful for his heart-warming gesture.
