A section of Arsenal fans have expressed their delight following a quality performance from Joe Willock during the 2-1 friendly defeat to Barcelona on Sunday.

The young graduate was handed with another pre-season start in the Joan Gamper trophy and he managed to impress with his showing in the centre of the park where he had the company of the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Sergi Busquets in the opposition.

Elsewhere, the 19-year-old also came up with a crucial defensive blocks to deny the Blaugrana from finding the net, and one of those involved an excellent acrobatic clearance off the line when the scores were level at 1-1.

Eventually, the Blaugrana found a late winner from Luis Suarez to secure a 2-1 victory, but a few of the Gunners faithful took the positives from the performance of Willock at the Camp Nou.

Here are some of the reactions on Twitter….

Willock has been consistent with his performances through pre-season and that has been aided from the fact that the likes of Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Mohamed Elneny reported late after their respective international commitments.

With the Premier League opener against Newcastle United next weekend, the teenager should stand the chance of partnering Granit Xhaka in the central midfield, given the senior options including loan signing Dani Ceballos may not be up to speed.

Meanwhile, the backline did have a struggle against the Blaugrana as there was plenty of action in the box, and it remains to be seen whether the club can pursue a top-class centre-back at the least before the Premier League transfer window shuts on Thursday.
