‘Just let him go’, some Arsenal fans react as club open talks over 27-year-old’s sale

A selection of Arsenal supporters have reacted positively to the potential departure of right-back Carl Jenkinson from the club during the ongoing transfer window.

The England international has been with the Gunners since the summer of 2011, but he has managed just four league appearances for the north London side since the close of the 2013/14 campaign.

In between this, he has spent a double loan spell at West Ham United as well as a temporary stint with Birmingham City, but overall, he has been overlooked for regular first-team football with the Gunners.

A recent report from Sky Sports News has claimed that Nottingham Forest have opened discussions with the Gunners to land the 27-year-old defender and the fans have invited the transfer interest.

Here are some of the reactions on Twitter…..

With Hector Bellerin still recovering following a knee injury, Ainsley Maitland-Niles has continued to feature in the makeshift right-back role with Jenkinson regarded as a potential back-up option.

However, manager Unai Emery could still consider the sale of the former Charlton Athletic graduate, given Calum Chambers can occupy the right side of the backline when required.

Chambers has mostly played at the heart of the defence during pre-season, but a starting spot may not be assured for the 2019/2020 campaign, should the Gunners pursue a top-class centre-back before Thursday’s Premier League transfer deadline.

Arsenal start their Premier League season with an away game at Newcastle United on August 11.
