Sky Sports: Arsenal agree fee to sign 22-year-old defender

Arsenal are understood to have struck a transfer agreement with Celtic for the services of young left-back Kieran Tierney, a report from Sky Sports News has revealed.

The north London giants have held a keen interest in signing the Scotland international since the start of the summer and they have eventually managed to agree on a transfer fee with just one day before the Premier League transfer deadline.

The exact valuation of the deal has not been mentioned by Sky Sports News but in a separate report from BBC Sport, it has been disclosed that the Gunners have agreed on a sum of £25m, which represents a Scottish record transfer fee.

Tierney has been associated with a move to the Gunners for a long while but there were recently concerns that he may require a lengthier period of recovery following the double hernia operation at the end of the previous campaign.

However, that was quickly dismissed by Hoops boss Neil Lennon, who said that Tierney could return to action in 7 to 14 days’ time, and it remains to be seen whether the 22-year-old will make his Gunners debut before the first international break of the season.

Meanwhile, Tierney may not be the only signing on transfer deadline day, considering manager Unai Emery has spoken about the possibility of recruiting a central defender to cover up the recent departure of Laurent Koscielny.

At present, no deal has been finalised with any of the central defensive targets, but a fresh report from Sky Sports News suggests that Chelsea’s David Luiz will make the surprise move across London to join the Gunners before tomorrow’s 5pm transfer deadline.
