A section of the Arsenal supporters believe Lucas Torreira deserves to make the starting lineup under Unai Emery after scoring a late consolation goal during the 3-1 Premier League defeat at Liverpool.
The Gunners gave a good account of themselves with the first-half display where both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe had genuine chances of finding the net.
Still, the Reds were able to take a 1-0 lead through Joel Matip prior to the interval and they managed to treble the advantage before the hour mark with Mohamed Salah bagging a quick-fire brace.
For the final 30 minutes, Torreira was afforded with a role off the bench in the place of Dani Ceballos, and he produced a good performance where he showed the intent going forward.
While it can be argued that the hosts were controlling the game, Torreira nonetheless bagged the consolation strike with five minutes left on the clock and that has impressed a few of the club’s faithful.
The 23-year-old has now been handed with gametime off the bench in the past two Premier League games and on both occasions, he has been able to make a notable impact with shots on target.
Still, his primary work remains at the centre of the park and it will be interesting to see whether manager Unai Emery hands the Uruguayan with the starting role in the north London derby.
Torreira announced himself with a top performance against Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates last season. He contributed the final goal during the 4-2 league triumph which involved a terrific second half display from the team.
