A section of the Arsenal supporters have been left frustrated by the performance of Granit Xhaka during the 2-2 Premier League draw against Spurs on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners were able to share the spoils after coming from two goals down at one stage, but a selection of fans believe the game could have paved differently, had Xhaka not been involved.
The Switzerland international played through the entire 90 minutes of the encounter but his performance was not the best as he struggled to dominate the proceedings in the centre of the park.
As per Whoscored, the 26-year-old had a decent pass percentage of 86.8, but he was particularly disappointing with the defensive side of his game with just two successful interceptions during the course of the derby.
While there were plenty of good moments where the Swiss was involved, he was the prime reason for the Gunners going 2-0 behind after conceding a needless penalty for a foul on Son.
As such, a few of the club’s faithful have criticised the showing of the Gunners’ captain and feel the midfielder does not deserve a starting berth with the tendency to make errors every now and then.
Here are some of the reactions….
Since joining the Gunners three years ago, Xhaka has conceded five penalties in the Premier League, as per Squawka, and that remains the most conceded by any player in the competition during that time frame.
Arsenal are currently fifth on the league table with seven points – just goal difference behind the top four. They are scheduled to face Watford on the road following the international break.
