‘Best in the league’, some Arsenal fans react after contract update on midfield star

A section of the Arsenal fans have expressed their delight after young midfielder Joe Willock was rewarded with a new long-term contract with the club.

The youngster has been with the side since the tender age of four and he has progressed through the youth ranks to become a first-team regular under manager Unai Emery.

The 20-year-old had a good pre-season which has already contributed towards three league starts this term and the club have now rewarded him with a renewed deal for his efforts.

The contract extension has gone well with some of the Gunners faithful, who have been impressed with the midfielder’s showing during the opening stages of the ongoing campaign.

Willock was entrusted with a role in the centre of the park during the opening three league games of the campaign and that included the testing challenge against Liverpool away from home.

That certainly shows the faith in his ability from the manager and it will be interesting to see whether he can constantly get the nod for the Premier League duties for the rest of the season.

Willock is bound to earn starts in the Cup competitions where Emery will certainly ring in the changes but his gametime in the league could be dependent on performances in those matches in particular.

Granit Xhaka and the young Matteo Guendouzi have cemented their spots in the centre of the park under Emery and that leaves the space for just one midfield position where there is stiff competition from the likes of Lucas Torreira and Dani Ceballos.
