‘Absolutely gutted’, some Arsenal fans feel sorry for star forward after Watford draw

Some Arsenal fans have sympathised with striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following the club’s 2-2 Premier League draw against Watford on the road.

The Gabon international had come into the game as the club’s top scorer this season with three goals and he added to that tally with a brace during the first half against the Hornets.

However, that was not sufficient to hand the Gunners with the maximum points after defensive mistakes from Sokratis Papastathopoulos and David Luiz allowed the Hornets to secure a comeback draw.

As such, there has been a general sense of sympathy among the Gunners supporters for Aubameyang, whose efforts could not help the club return to winning ways.

While Sokratis and Luiz are particularly to blame for the stalemate, it can be said that a number of other players including Ainsley Maitland-Niles failed to live up to the challenge.

Maitland-Niles did contribute the assist for Aubameyang’s second goal but barring that, he had an off day with Gerard Deulofeu constantly getting the better of him on the right side of the Gunners backline.

With the 2-2 draw, the Gunners are presently seventh in the Premier League table with eight points, but they are only goal difference behind the Champions League positions.

Up next, Unai Emery’s side have a testing away trip to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League opener and there are bound to be a few changes to the starting XI after the poor second half display at Vicarage Road.
