‘He’s going to be a star,’ some Arsenal fans praise forward’s performance vs Nottingham Forest
|Some Arsenal fans have been left delighted with the performance of teenager Gabriel Martinelli during the club’s 5-0 rout of Nottingham Forest in the third round of the League Cup.
The 18-year-old was handed with his maiden start for the Gunners on Tuesday night after previous managing a single cameo appearance against Newcastle United in the Premier League opener.
Right from the start, Martinelli impressed with his direct running and eagerness to get on to the ball, and he was responsible for breaking the deadlock in the 31st minute after meeting Calum Chambers’ volleyed cross with a sublime header.
In the second period, the Brazilian missed out on a close chance to double his tally but he eventually got his brace in stoppage time after a superb curling shot from outside the box which took a slight deflection.
Following the game, a number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to express their views and some of them are amazed with the youngster’s application on the field at the tender age of 18.

Despite the top-notch display, Martinelli is unlikely to break into the Premier League mix anytime soon, considering Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been in stunning form with seven goals from seven appearances this term while Alexandre Lacazette should return from an ankle concern next month.
Nonetheless, the teenager offers manager Unai Emery with a potential gamechanging option off the bench and he could get some gametime on the back of the League Cup showing. Arsenal are scheduled to face Manchester United on the road in their next Premier League game on Monday night.
