‘Monster’, ‘must start’, some Arsenal fans rave about 24-year-old’s display against Forest
|A section of the Arsenal fan have highlighted the performance of defender Calum Chambers during the 5-0 thumping of Nottingham Forest in the League Cup third round.
Chambers had a fantastic weekend where he contributed a crucial goal in the 3-2 comeback triumph over Aston Villa in the Premier League and he was able to carry on with the good form against Forest.
The England international started the game on the right side of the defence and he made the first goal for Gabriel Martinelli in the 31st minute with a superb-volleyed cross.
In the second half, he continued to remain an attacking presence but his goalscoring contributions came about after he was switched to the left-back position to compensate for Hector Bellerin’s injury return off the bench.
In the final 10 minutes, Chambers came up with a couple of more assists for Reiss Nelson and Martinelli respectively and that capped an allround performance, where he also made the most number of tackles (4) for the side.
Shortly after the game, a number of the club’s faithful reserved special praise for Chambers, who has hardly made a mistake since reintegrating into the squad this season.
Twitter Reactions:
Chambers has been impressive from the right side of the defence in the past two matches for the Gunners and he is certainly making the push for a starting role in the Premier League.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles will be available for selection after serving a one-game domestic ban for the sending off against Aston Villa and it remains to be seen whether Chambers keeps his place.
The 24-year-old has impressed with his forward play and ability to make timely challenges but his limited pace while tracking back could see Maitland-Niles get the nod against Manchester United on Monday night.
