Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has heaped praise on young midfielder Matteo Guendouzi and believes he has the potential to emerge as one of the best players in his position.

The 20-year-old is currently in his second season with the Gunners after joining from Lorient and his progress has been rewarded with a constant presence in the starting lineup for the league duties.

While Guendouzi has yet to emerge as the complete package, he has shown plenty of desire and determination and has already produced standout second half displays against Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa this term.

Speaking on the club’s official website, Lacazette praised his compatriot while talking up the midfielder’s eagerness to get onto the ball and make things happen.

The Gunners forward added that Guendouzi is determined to be one of the best midfielders and he is going through the right path after the recent displays in the league.

“We can see that every top midfielder in the world is like this [in terms of demanding the ball and being brave]. They all want to take the ball. Matteo has a good ambition, he wants to be one of the best players in his position so every day he is trying to be the best and this month he showed that he can be,” he told Arsenal.com.

Guendouzi’s progress was rewarded with a maiden call-up to the France national team last month but he was not able to make his debut for the World Cup champions.

Nonetheless, he has continued with the same level of consistency and that recently saw him win the club’s Player of the Month accolade for the month of September.

Meanwhile, Lacazette has returned to normal training after his ankle concern and he may make his comeback in the matchday squad when the Gunners face Sheffield United on the road on October 21.
