Martinelli and Ozil start, Predicted Arsenal lineup (4-2-3-1) to face Liverpool

Arsenal are scheduled to face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on the road in the fourth round of the League Cup. The Gunners suffered another disappointing gameweek in the Premier League last weekend as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace despite holding a two-goal advantage after the opening 10 minutes.

On Wednesday night, Unai Emery’s side are scheduled to face Liverpool at Anfield and the game presents a stiff challenge, considering the club have failed to register a single win over the Reds in any competition since the 2014/15 campaign.

Predicted Lineup:

Emiliano Martinez has been the outright goalkeeping choice to start in the Cup competitions this term. The Argentina international is expected to start in goal for the visit of Merseyside.

The defence should be completely overhauled from the recent league game. Hector Bellerin, who has completely recovered from a long-term knee injury, should start at right-back.

Elsewhere, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding should take up the central defensive roles with Sead Kolasinac slotting into the left-back spot ahead of Kieran Tierney, who made his Premier League debut over the weekend.

In the midfield, Granit Xhaka is not part of the travelling squad after the unforeseen incident with the supporters following his second half substitution against Palace.

That still won’t make much of a difference, given Emery has generally rested or dropped the pair of Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi to the bench for the competitions other than the Premier League.

Lucas Torreira should be one of the definite starters after being an unused substitute against Palace and the same should be the case with Joe Willock, who failed to make the matchday squad altogether.

Emery has hinted that Mesut Ozil will return to the playing mix for the Reds clash and that would mark the end of a six-match run, where he has failed to even make the matchday squad.

The German should directly slot into the starting XI in his preferred number 10 role and we are anticipating Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe to feature either side of the experienced playmaker.

Upfront, Gabriel Martinelli appears the likely candidate to lead the line with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette probably coming off the bench if required.

Martinelli has scored a sublime tally of five goals from his previous three starts and he will be keen to impress in the League Cup , where he bagged his first two goals for the club in the 5-0 drubbing of Nottingham Forest.
