A selection of Arsenal fans have slammed manager Unai Emery following the Gunners’ penalty shoot-out defeat to Liverpool in the fourth round of the League Cup on Wednesday night.

The north London giants undoubtedly had the stronger lineup during the course of the game but they were let down by poor defending which eventually saw them eliminated from the Cup competition.

The Gunners twice had a two-goal advantage against the Reds at Anfield, but they managed to squander the lead on both occasions with Divock Origi scoring the crucial goal for the Reds in the 94th minute ( to make it 5-5) to enforce a penalty shootout.

The spot-kicks did not go as planned for the Gunners with Dani Ceballos missing his attempt and that ensured that the Reds prevailed with a victory which seemed unlikely at one point of time.

Following the game, a number of Gunners fans were frustrated and a few of them believe Emery should step down from the head coach role after squandering a wonderful chance to reach the last eight of the League Cup.

Here are some of the reactions on Twitter…

Arsenal have a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League this weekend and that appears another testing prospect, given the Wolves have generally impressed against the elite teams.

The Gunners managed just one point from a possible six against the west Midlands outfit last season and the players need to play to their very best in order to outwit a team, who tend to pose a strong defensive resolve when they settle into their games.
