Raul Sanllehi speaks on Unai Emery’s situation at Arsenal
|Arsenal’s head of football Raul Sanllehi has said that Unai Emery is the right man to manage the club despite the average performance during the current Premier League season.
The Gunners recently succumbed to a 2-0 defeat on the road to Leicester City and this has dropped them eight points adrift of the top four places after just 12 games into the campaign.
Owing to this, Emery has come under criticism from the majority of the Gunners fans but The Athletic’s David Ornstein recently reported that the Spaniard has the complete backing from the hierarchy.
Speaking at a staff event, Sanllehi has now said that Emery is still the right man for the job and he is confident that the 48-year-old can turn things around during the forthcoming festive schedule.
“Things need to improve to meet our objectives for the season, and we firmly believe Unai is the right man for the job, together with the backroom team we have in place. We are all working intenstively behind the scenes to turn things around are confident we will,” he was quoted as saying by Metro.
The Gunners have been guilty of squandering leads during the current league campaign and that has already happened twice over the past month where they have drawn against Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
As a result, they have gone winless for four Premier League matches on the bounce and that includes a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United, where they barely provided a threat after Nicolas Pepe missed a clear-cut chance at the start.
Following the international break, the Gunners have four winnable league games against Southampton, Norwich City, Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United before the big test at the Emirates Stadium against champions Manchester City.
