‘An absolute joke’, some Arsenal fans react to David Ornstein’s update on 27-year-old star

A selection of Arsenal supporters have reacted negatively to the suggestion that Granit Xhaka could be re-integrated into the matchday squad in the near future.

The Switzerland international was involved in a outburst with the club’s supporters during the 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace last month and he was soon after stripped from the captaincy.

Xhaka has since failed to make the matchday squad for the Gunners in five successive games but it appears that the club are pondering his comeback amid the recent winless streak.

In a podcast from The Athletic, Ornstein has revealed that Xhaka is still greatly valued by the club and it is believed that he would provide the much-needed balance on his return to the team.

This has certainly not pleased some of the Gunners supporters, who feel the midfielder has been culpable to making mistakes in the past and won’t necessarily improve the defensive performances.

Twitter Reactions:

Xhaka sent a public apology to the supporters for his reaction against the Eagles last month but it is quite clear that some of the fans have yet to get over the incident.

The Swiss has indeed made a couple of poor judgements which have cost goals this term but he still has a good passing range and could perfectly fit alongside Lucas Torreira, who can perform the tough-tackling duties.

Arsenal are scheduled to entertain Eintracht Frankfurt in the midweek Europa League clash at the Emirates and it will be interesting to see whether Xhaka returns to contention for playing time.
