‘Reason to get him sacked’, some Arsenal fans slam Unai Emery for one decision vs Eintracht Frankfurt

A section of the Arsenal supporters have slammed under-fire manager Unai Emery following his surprise decision to substitute Gabriel Martinelli at the hour mark against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Gunners had gone into Thursday’s Europa League clash against Eintracht on a six-match winless streak but they made a good start with Martinelli twice coming close to finding the breakthrough.

Ultimately, it was the young Brazilian, who contributed the assist for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who scored his 10th goal of the campaign after a ricochet off the woodwork.

In the second period, Eintracht made a much better start which contributed to Daichi Kamada scoring in the 54th minute and few moments later, Emery made the surprise choice to replace Martinelli with Ozil.

Kamada went on to bag his second goal of the game and the match winner after the hour mark, and that has infuriated many Gunners supporters, who have questioned Martinelli’s substitution by Emery in the first place.

Twitter Reactions:

Martinelli was already on a yellow card and Emery may have sought to protect the teenager, given he had already committed another foul after his booking.

Still, that does not justify the substitution, particularly with the youngster being one of the best players on the night and should have completed the entire 90 minutes regardless of the result.

Emery was certainly out of ideas with his changes and bringing on Lucas Torreira for the injured Shkodran Mustafi made little sense when the Gunners were trailing 2-1.

The Spaniard had the option to field Willock in the midfield with Granit Xhaka dropping as the second centre-back but his reluctance to do so, saw both Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe left frustrated on the bench and unable to influence the proceedings.
