Freddie Ljungberg provides injury update on Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney
|Arsenal’s interim boss Freddie Ljungberg has provided an injury update on Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney following the club’s 3-1 Premier League victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium.
Bellerin was initially named in the starting lineup to face the east London outfit but he picked up a hamstring concern in training which saw him replaced with Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
On the other hand, Tierney managed to last only 29 minutes on the playing field before he was substituted with a shoulder problem, which he seems to be carrying for a while, as per The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
Despite the untimely setbacks, the Gunners were able to end their nine-match winless run with an impressive second-half display and following the game, Ljungberg has provided an update on the defensive duo.
In a report covered by the club’s official website, Ljungberg revealed that Bellerin had felt a slight discomfort in his hamstring and it appeared best to leave him out of the matchday squad.
“Hector had a bit of feeling, I think, in his hamstring in the warm up. Then we took the decision. I said I’m not going to force anyone to play if you don’t feel 100 per cent,” he told.
The Swede added that Tierney had a concern with his shoulder but could not disclose the exact details with the left-back expected to undergo a scan to determine the problem.
“Tierney, I think it’s something with his shoulder but I don’t know exactly what it is. But obviously we had to take him off so I think he’s going to maybe go to hospital and check what it is,” he added.
In the absence of the duo, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Sead Kolasinac put up solid performances in the right and left-back spots respectively and the latter provided the assist for the crucial equaliser from Gabriel Martinelli.
Maitland-Niles could have done better to prevent Angelo Ogbonna’s goal for the Hammers but his display improved in the second half, where he was impressive with his quick link-up play with Nicolas Pepe on the right flank.
