Mikel Arteta hints key Arsenal forward could be rested for the FA Cup tie vs Leeds United

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted that Alexandre Lacazette could be afforded with a rest for the forthcoming FA Cup third round tie against Championship leaders Leeds United.

The France international has struggled to find the net in the past four appearances for the club and during this period, he has managed to disappoint with his finishing after getting into good scoring positions.

In the recent league clash against Manchester United, the Frenchman produced his best performance under new boss Arteta and he was hugely influential to creating the club’s second goal in the 2-0 triumph.

Despite, he could not put an end to his own scoring drought but that does not appear to concern Arteta, who is pleased by the fact that the striker’s workrate has aided the performances of his team-mates.

“He had the chances to put away [against United]. He has been really helpful in giving us a lot of options. He makes his team-mates better, that’s one of the biggest qualities,” he told Evening Standard.

The Gunners head coach added that Lacazette will ultimately find his scoring boots and hinted that he could do with a bit of rest after giving his best over the past three league matches.

“But the goal will come for him naturally because he is a natural finisher. Does he just need one to go in anyhow? Exactly. And maybe a little bit fresher legs will help as well,” he added.

Arteta is bound to make changes to the starting lineup for the Leeds clash but he may not look for a complete overhaul from the previous league game as he would want to carry the momentum forward with another victory.

The Cup tie could still present gametime for the likes of Hector Bellerin and Daniel Ceballos, who have been on the sidelines over the past few weeks and yet to feature for the side under Arteta.
