‘Absolute warrior’, some Arsenal fans are pleased with defender’s performance vs Leeds United

Some Arsenal supporters have heaped praise on the performance of the Sokratis Papastathopoulos in the FA Cup third round win over Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium.

The Greece international started in an unfamiliar right-back position against the Championship leaders and he had a mixed first-half performance, where he struggled with his positioning on a few occasions.

However, the 31-year-old was dominant with his display after the break and he ended the game with two tackles, four clearances and won four aerial duels, as per whoscored.

Sokratis did not provide much of an attacking threat from the right-back spot, where he had played for the first time in four-and-a-half years, but he was able to comfortably deal with the Leeds threat in the closing stages of the game with a couple of timely challenges.

This has certainly pleased a section of the Gunners fans on Twitter and here are some of the best reactions over the Greek’s display on Monday night…

Sokratis will no doubt return to his familiar central defensive role for the forthcoming Premier League clash against Crystal Palace, given Rob Holding had a forgettable game where he was average with his distribution.

Both Sokratis and David Luiz have definitely shown an improvement in their displays under the guidance of Arteta and that is certainly a good sight for the club going forward, provided they can avoid a repeat of the first-half showing against Leeds, where the entire team looked out of sync.
