Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has provided a transfer update ahead of the club’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Bournemouth on Monday night.
Arteta has spent a month with the first-team squad since his appointment and during this period, the club have gone through a run where they have picked up just two wins in all competitions.
Despite this, there have been a number of positive displays and one of those came during the 2-2 draw against Chelsea in midweek where the team were down to 10 men after just 26 minutes.
Amidst this, Arteta has said that he would only prefer to sign players, who can make a difference on the playing field and when asked about a fresh update on Friday, the Spaniard indicated that there is a 50/50 chance that the club will do business before the deadline next week.
“At the moment, I am 50:50 because this transfer window is very, very complicated. I only want to bring somebody in if I’m really convinced that he can really improve the level that we have,” he told.
Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykola Matviyenko has recently emerged as an option to strengthen the central defensive department but the Gunners appear only keen on an initial loan move which does not suit the Ukrainian outfit.
Apart from Matviyenko, French duo Layvin Kurzawa and Thomas Lemar have been recently linked. The Gunners are said to have made contact with Atletico Madrid for Lemar but there has been no progress beyond the initial enquiry.
Arsenal will be aiming to return to winning ways in the FA Cup fourth round tie against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. Arteta is expected to pick a strong lineup after previously emphasising that the club would take the FA Cup seriously.
