Mikel Arteta provides update on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amid Barcelona transfer link

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an update on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following the Gunners’ FA Cup fourth round win over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

The north London side have missed the services of Aubameyang for the past three domestic games after his sending off at Crystal Palace and during this period, they have fared reasonably well in the attack with five goals scored.

A couple of them came during the 2-1 win over the Cherries in the South Coast on Monday night and following the Cup tie, Arteta was asked about the future of Aubameyang, who has been linked with a possible transfer to Barcelona this month.

In response, the Spaniard clearly stated that Aubameyang’s future lies with the club and he can’t wait for the forward to return to the playing field, he told: “I want Auba here 100 per cent, I’m so happy with him and I can’t wait to have him available again after suspension.”

Arsenal’s win over Bournemouth has seen them progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup where they are scheduled to face League One side Portsmouth away from home. The Gunners will be facing Pompey for the first time in more than a decade.

Meanwhile, Arteta will want to keep up the momentum with a victory over Burnley on Sunday and Aubameyang is expected to make the starting lineup after an extended break for the red card picked up at Selhurst Park.

The club are currently 10 points adrift of the Champions League places but they have the opportunity to close the gap with a victory, should fourth-placed Chelsea drop points against Leicester City on the road.
