Daniel Ceballos makes fresh decision on his Arsenal loan contract: report
|Spanish midfielder Daniel Ceballos has reportedly made a U-turn and will see out the rest of his season-long loan contract with Arsenal.
A report earlier this month stated that the 23-year-old had grown frustrated with the inability to break into Mikel Arteta’s team and he could seek the termination of the temporary deal before the end of the month.
However, according to Spanish outlet AS, that does not appear the case any longer and the Real Madrid loanee is prepared to fight for his place under Arteta for the rest of the season.
Prior to the FA Cup fourth round tie against Bournemouth, Ceballos had been an unused substitute for three-straight games and there was obviously a doubt regarding his role under Arteta.
In response to this, the manager clarified that the Spaniard’s situation was down to the lack of fitness and the midfielder was handed with a 21-minute cameo during the 2-1 win over the Cherries earlier this week.
Ceballos will definitely earn more playing time for the remaining months of the season but he needs to come up with a few impressive cameos off the bench to get back into the reckoning for a starting spot.
Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka remain the constant picks for Arteta in the centre of the park with Matteo Guendouzi acting as the immediate back-up.
The number 10 position, however, could be up for grabs with German playmaker Mesut Ozil yet to make any major goalscoring contribution this season.
Ceballos still has competition in the form of Joe Willock, who was handed with the starting role ahead of him during the recent FA Cup fourth round tie away at Bournemouth.
