A section of the Arsenal fans have appreciated the performance of defender Shkodran Mustafi during the club’s goalless Premier League draw against Burnley on the road.
The German was undoubtedly the best-performing defender in the recent FA Cup fourth round win over Bournemouth but he picked up an ankle concern which saw him substituted.
However, the centre-back was able to recover from the minor setback in time for the Clarets clash where he was dominant in the air for vast parts of the game.
Sean Dyche’s side were indeed handed with a couple of clear-cut chances to find the net but overall, the defensive display from the side was good as they were able to handle the physical presence of the Clarets players.
As per whoscored, Mustafi was the highest rated player from the Gunners side as he managed one tackle, two interceptions, seven clearances and won seven aerial duels.
Mustafi has not been a favourite among the Gunners fans for his inconsistency in the performances but a few of them have expressed their pleasure over his showing at Turf Moor on Sunday.
Arsenal are still 10 points behind the Champions League places after they failed to capitalise on fourth-placed Chelsea’s failure to win against Leicester City on the road.
Arteta’s side will now head to Dubai for a warm weather training camp during the winter break. They are scheduled to host Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium in around two weeks’ time.
