Alexandre Lacazette reacts after ending goal drought with Arsenal: report

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has said that he was pleased with the reaction from his teammates after he ended a nine-game run without scoring for the club.

The Frenchman was dropped to the bench for the Newcastle United clash on Sunday evening and it was not a surprise, given he was struggling to make the most of the scoring chances offered to him.

In his place, club graduate Eddie Nketiah was handed with his maiden Premier League start and though, the youngster had a decent game, he couldn’t find the net with the opportunities at his disposal.

As such, Lacazette made a 10-minute cameo replacing Nketiah towards the end and he was able to provide the assist for Mesut Ozil’s goal before finding the net to end his two-month goalless run.

Speaking after that game, Lacazette expressed his pleasure after experiencing one of his most difficult phases of his Gunners career and said that he was touched with the reaction from his teammates, who celebrated alongside him.

“I am really, really happy because I waited for this moment for a long time,” he said. “As well, I am touched because of the way all my team-mates reacted when I scored that goal. It means a lot to me and a lot for the spirit we have in the team. This is good,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

Lacazette could have spent an extended time on the bench, had Nketiah made a goalscoring contribution against the Magpies. Instead, he was the one, who proved his worth with his cameo display and that should assure him with a starting spot for the forthcoming Europa League game.

The Gunners are scheduled to face Olympiacos on the road in the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie. The Gunners have only won three of their previous six meetings against the Greek outfit and they can anticipate a tricky challenge on their hands.
