‘Different player’, ‘Immense’, some Arsenal fans are delighted with 27-year-old’s display vs Olympiacos

Some Arsenal supporters were impressed with the performance of Shkodran Mustafi during the club’s 1-0 win over Olympiacos in the first leg of the Europa League round of 32 clash.

The Germany international has been a regular figure at the heart of the club’s defence this year and has recently kept three successive clean sheets alongside David Luiz.

Against Olympiacos, Mustafi did have a couple of nervy moments during the course of the 90 minutes but overall, he came up with another solid display under manager Mikel Arteta.

Mustafi won the most aerial duels (6) than any Arsenal player on the day. He also made more tackles (3) and provided one key pass (whoscored) in the lead up to the winning goal scored by Alexandre Lacazette.

The centre-back has not been a favourite among the Gunners fans due to his tendency to make costly mistakes at the back but of late, he has shown a definite improvement and that has caught the eye of a few supporters.

Mustafi and Luiz have cemented themselves as the preferred central defensive partnership and that is only a positive going forward, given Arteta would have a steady and unchanged backline to work with for the rest of the season.

Hector Bellerin is definitely the first-choice option for the right-back spot in the Premier League. Similarly, Bukayo Saka appears to have established himself on the left side of the defence on the back of regular goalscoring contributions over the past month.
