Serie A side AC Milan are reportedly planning to renew their interest in Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira when the transfer window reopens later in the year.
Torreira was the subject of interest from the Rossoneri last summer but the Gunners made it clear that they had no plans to sanction his departure.
The Uruguayan international has since experienced a mixed campaign where he has been in-and-out of the starting lineup and just prior to the shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, he suffered an ankle injury.
As per the publication, the Rossoneri are prepared to make a renewed attempt to sign the midfielder after failing to make any progress in the negotiations last year.
It is added that they are in regular contact with the player’s representative after getting to know that the €40m-rated midfielder would fancy a return to the Serie A.
Torreira has been restricted to just 15 league starts during the current campaign with the last of those coming before the winter break in February.
Still, the 24-year-old remains a key player within the squad and he could become a regular starter once again, particularly with the Gunners likely to miss out on signing Daniel Ceballos on a permanent basis from Real Madrid.
Arteta’s side are already looking into a replacement for the Spaniard but selling Torreira should not be on the club’s plans this summer, considering the limited senior options in the centre of the park.
Apart from Torreira and Ceballos, Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi are the other specialist central midfielders, who have played regularly through the current season.
