Shkodran Mustafi has undoubtedly become one of the most criticised and talked-about players in Arsenal history.
The German defender joined the Gunners for a fee in the region of £35million four years ago but his performances have constantly been questioned due to a string of high-profile errors.
However, the 28-year-old has looked rejuvenated under head coach Mikel Arteta in the past few months – although he recently admitted his future remains uncertain with his contract expiring next summer.
“I’ve played more regularly under Mikel Arteta, also in the Premier League. That has really helped me. I feel very good. I understand his style of football, how he likes to play, that really fits me,” he told Sky Sports in Germany.
“The way he is at his age, that has really surprised me, I don’t know if after four years, I could be that serious and have a charisma like his to lead a team.
“He is managing that very well. I feel that in this short amount of time I already learned some new things that help my game. “I can imagine continuing to play for him. But we still don’t know about the future. There are still many question marks.”
The 2014 World Cup winner received vast plaudits before the Coronavirus pandemic pulled a halt to football matches around the world.
Arsenal’s Instagram account posted a reminder to supporters of Mustafi’s impressive statistics in the 2019/20 season so far.
