Arsenal star drives £500,000 armoured car into training
|Arsenal star Mesut Ozil was spotted driving his £500,000 armour-plated car into training almost a year after being robbed at knifepoint in North London.
Reports initially suggested that the 30-year-old had bought the car for his wife Amine Gulse following the traumatic incident last summer, but Ozil has been seen driving the Mercedes G63 Mansory car into training.
A mugger who tried to rob Ozil and team-mate Sead Kolasinac in July 2019 was jailed for 10-years last November after CCTV footage showed the Bosnian defender seen fighting off two knife-wielding men.
The would-be robbers used a stolen moped and possessed weapons including a 10-12 inch screwdriver and a smaller instrument believed to be six inches long.
While both Ozil, Kolasinac and their partners escaped unhurt, the incident would have undoubtedly provoked the players into stepping up their private security.
The G-Class Mansory, worth in excess of £500,000, is bulletproof and finished in visible carbon fibre, with Ozil photographed driving the car into Arsenal’s London Colney training ground on Wednesday.
According to the Mercedes Mansory website, “the market for special protection vehicles has been growing continuously for years and is becoming increasingly popular with customers from all over the world.”
