Arsenal have completed the signing of George Lewis after he impressed during a two-week trial at the club.
The 19-year-old winger has spent much of his early career in Norway’s lower leagues player for the likes of Tromso IL and Tromsdalen, but caught the attention of Arsenal coaches when he trialled with the under-23s in March.
Lewis, who was born in Uganda and has previously spent time at Ipswich’s academy, is a skilful, versatile player whose move to Arsenal has taken many in Norway by surprise including the coach who gave him his first professional contract.
“He’s ready for Arsenal, yes,” his agent Cheikh Diaw told VG.
“The club has not made it official yet, but he has signed for the club. They are really looking forward to getting over George, who they see as an exciting player.”
The youngster who turns 20 next month is one of several young players Arsenal are targeting this summer, with PSG starlet Adil Aouchiche being closely looked at following his debut for the first team this season.
Aouchiche, 17, has already held talks with Lille and Saint-Etienne but his high salary demands could freeze out any potential move this summer, while his family reportedly want him to move to a big European club in the search of regular first team football.
Celtic star Odsonne Edouard remains a player Arteta is interested in, with the 28-goal striker attracting interest from the likes of Everton and a price tag expected to be between £20 and £30 million.
