Arsenal came out on top in their first friendly in the build-up to the Premier League restart. The Gunners scored six without reply against Charlton Athletic.
Eddie Nketiah scored a hattrick. The other scorers were Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Alexander Lacazette and Joe Willock.
The match was officiated by members of the coaching staff of both clubs. Arsenal went up two goals to the good at half time, courtesy of goals by Alexander Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. Lacazette opened the scoring with a thunderous strike from outside the box. Aubameyang doubled the lead before the break with a run down the left wing before curling the ball inside the far post.
Arsenal’s third goal arrived in what can only be described as a scramble. Dani Ceballos took a free kick and Eddie Nkeitah got there first to tap it in. Nketiah’s second goal was a composed finish in a one-on-one situation that was created as a result of a long pass from Sokratis .
The young striker with bags of potential completed his hattrick with a header courtesy of a fine cross from Joe Willock. Nketiah then turned provider to Willock who capped off a wonderful day for the Gunners with a first time strike from the edge of the box with his left foot and straight into the back of the net.
This game time will do the Gunners a world of good as they look to regain match fitness ahead of their first Premier League match away to Manchester City on June 17th. It is expected that Arsenal will take part in at least one more behind-closed-doors friendly before the season restarts.
