According to Antonio Ruiz from Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, some members of the Atletico Madrid hierarchy have given up on Thomas Partey extending his contract with the club. Several clubs have shown an interest in the player but it is believed that he is headed to the Premier League with Arsenal the most likely destination.
Earlier today, Partey played in Atletico’s first game back in La Liga against Athletic Bilbao with the game ending 1-1.
The Ghanaian central midfielder has a contract with the Spanish club until 2023 and his buyout clause is £45 million.
Partey signed his first contract with Atletico Madrid in 2011 but only made his debut with the club four years later. Since then, he has gone on to make more than 150 appearances for Los Rojiblancos. He has become a pivotal part of Diego Simeone’s side and is considered to be one of the most in demand midfielders in the world.
There has been an abundance of speculation regarding Partey’s next move and this is the latest in a string of rumours linking him with a move to the Gunners.
