Aubameyang: “It will maybe be the most important decision of my career”

Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed the Gunners ‘have the keys’ to him extending his deal with the club.

Contract sagas at the north London club have been quite common in recent years and Aubameyang is the latest figure to be linked with a move away since his contract expires next summer.

In an exclusive interview with Telefoot, the 30-year-old opened up about his future with Arsenal and the negotiations he’s held with the club.

“Recently I have not received an offer to extend. But of course we have had exchanges with the club, for a fair few months now,” he said. “And they know very well why so far nothing has happened”

“They have the keys. It’s up to them to do their work and after that we will see how things go.”

“As you said it is a turning point in my career, and I will be very frank with everyone, it will certainly be a very difficult decision to make.”

“Because I still have not decided and we will see. It will maybe be the most important decision of my career.”

Given how uncertain this summer transfer window will be due to COVID-19-related implications, it’s unclear if Arsenal will even allow Aubameyang to leave the club.

However, if they attempt to convince the Gabonese forward to extend with the club, his comments indicate he wants the club to be ambitious.

“All players and competitors want to win titles. Everyone is going to ask the question, does he want to win them at Arsenal or somewhere else,” he said. “The future will tell us.”

“As I have said already, the club has the keys to this. I am hungry to win titles, and whatever my decision, I intend to fight to win titles.”

“To be clear, nothing has been decided.”

Considering the number of players that have entered the final year of their contract at Arsenal, the club will surely hope they do not repeat past mistakes.

Aubameyang’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the 2020/21 Premier League season.
