Saka nearly reached contract agreement with Arsenal before Premier League shutdown

Arsenal’s young forward, Bukayo Saka, nearly signed a contract extension with the club earlier in the year.

According to David Ornstein, (via @MrArsenicTM), the 18-year-old was reportedly close to signing a new deal earlier in the year but the Premier League’s shutdown prevented the move from being finalised.

The journalist says all relevant parties would like Saka to extend his contract and believes the deal is close. But the deal has to be right and until an announcement is made, it’s possible talks could collapse.

The exciting forward’s current deal is set to expire at the end of next season, the same time as Arsenal’s leading goal scorer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Yesterday, head coach Mikel Arteta said the club was working on finalising crucial contracts.

“We are trying, as a club, to finalise the deals that are more urgent and are a priority for us,” he said.

“The ones you are talking about [Bukayo and Aubameyang] – they are both really important, not just for now but for the future of the club as well and if the club has something to announce, they will do it in the right moment.”

The Gunners return to Premier League action later tonight when they face Manchester City.
