Fenerbahce looking to raise money from fans to sign Mesut Ozil

Turkish club Fenerbahçe are aiming to begin a campaign to raise funds from their fans to sign Mesut Özil from Arsenal, according to Turkish website Fotospor via Sportwitness

The Turkish club will look to raise €3 million from their fans. If they are able to do that, the club will stump up the remaining funds required to bring the German playmaker to the Ülker Stadium.

Mesut Özil has revealed in the past that he was a boyhood Fenerbahçe fan. There have been rumours linking the former Real Madrid man with a move to Fenerbahçe in the past but the capital required to get any such transfer over the line has proven to be too high. Could this innovative approach be the answer to finally make this deal happen?

Özil’s future has been under the microscope for a long time now. He is Arsenal’s highest earner and is one of a select few who decided against taking a wage cut in the midst of the coronavirus. Arsenal are known to be keen to get him off their wage bill if the opportunity were to present itself.

Earlier in the season, the German was in and out of the Arsenal team under former head coach Unai Emery. Since Mikel Arteta’s arrival, the world cup winner has played almost every Premier League game. It is worth noting that Özil has not featured in either of Arsenal’s games since the Premier League restarted. Arteta has stressed that Özil will return to the side when he can give the team his best but doubts about his future remain.
