Cedric Soares expected to sign permanent contract with Arsenal this summer

Arsenal look set to agree an extension to Cedric’s loan from Southampton and are keen on snapping up the full back on a permanent basis this summer when he will be a free agent, according to ESPN

All Premier League clubs must finalise contract extensions for the remainder of this season with players that have deals expiring on June 30th before midnight.

Cedric’s situation is a little complicated. For Arsenal to extend his loan deal, the player will first have to sign a short term contract extension with his parent club Southampton due to player registration regulations. All parties believe a deal can be thrashed out before the deadline.

Cedric Soares signed for Arsenal on loan from Southampton in January of this year. He has not made his debut for the Gunners yet due to injuries. He was injured when he signed for the club but his recovery was delayed and then the season was suspended due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Soares suffered a facial injury in the days leading up to the return of the Premier League and has not featured in either of Arsenal’s first two games. It was suggested that the player would depart the Emirates without playing a single game for the club. It now looks like this will not be the case.

Arteta is said to be impressed with Cedric’s professionalism and positive impact on the dressing room. Arsenal’s head coach wants the club to sign him permanently in the summer. He is an experienced full back who has played in the Premier League since 2015 barring last season which he spent on loan at Inter Milan. He was a part of the Portugal team that won Euro 2016 and represented his country at the World Cup in 2018.

Cedric is said to be keen on securing a permanent move to Arsenal and wants to make up for lost time. It is rumoured that the Portuguese international could be offered a three year deal by Arsenal in the summer.
