Partey ‘hasn’t decided’ on his next step yet – Fabrizio Romano

Thomas Partey, who has been heavily linked with a £45 million move to Arsenal, hasn’t decided what his future plans are, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sports.

Reports regarding the Ghanaian midfielder’s move to Arsenal have intensified in the last few weeks with some suggesting Atletcio have begun looking for Partey’s replacement and have contacted Mallorca to register their interest in Idrissu Baba. Others have indicated that Partey’s agents are preparing to travel to London in the coming days to discuss a potential transfer with Arsenal representatives.

Partey’s father as well as teammates past and present have commented on the player’s much talked about move to North London. Bringing the Ghanaian to the Emirates is considered to be a priority for Arsenal this summer.

Atletico Madrid had offered the player a contract prior to the pandemic which he was not ready to sign. The terms of that deal have changed and Atletico can no longer afford to pay Partey what they had initially offered him due to the financial impact of the coronavirus on the Madrid based club. This has made it increasingly unlikely that he will agree to the deal that is currently on the table.

Partey is said to be completely focussed on completing the season with the Rojiblancos before making a final decision on his future. Atletico’s next La Liga match is against Alaves at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday.
