Arsenal to face Manchester City in FA Cup semi-final

Arsenal will take on Manchester City in their FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium on either July 18th or 19th.

The Gunners beat Sheffield United 2-1 at Bramall Lane in the quarter final to book their place in the final four of the tournament.

Mikel Arteta’s side took the lead in the first half through a Nicolas Pepe penalty after Lacazette was brought down just inside the penalty box by Chris Basham. The game looked set to finish 1-0 to the Gunners but David McGoldrick equalised for the Blades with four minutes left on the clock.

A long throw from Sheffield United caused havoc in Arsenal’s penalty box. Sead Kolasinac’s attempted clearance hit Shkodran Mustafi and the ball landed on a plate for McGoldrick who scored with ease.

Arsenal managed to find a stoppage time winner courtesy of Dani Ceballos. A nice move involving Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah found Pepe inside the box. The Ivorian tried to bring the ball onto his favoured left foot but at the last moment left it for the Spaniard who slotted the ball into Dean Henderson’s near post.

Manchester City beat Newcastle 2-0 at St. James’ Park to secure their place in the semi finals where they will meet the Gunners. Mikel Arteta will get another opportunity to get the better of his mentor Pep Guardiola.

The other semi final will be contested by Manchester United and Chelsea. The winners of the two semi finals will meet each other in the Heads Up FA Cup Final which is scheduled to take place at Wembley on August 1st.
