Kieran Trippier says teammate Thomas Partey would be a perfect fit for the Premier League

Atletico Madrid and England full back Kieran Tierney has said that Thomas Partey would ‘fit in perfectly in the Premier League’ in an interview on The Beautiful Game podcast via Football London

Partey signed his first contract with the Madrid-based club in 2011 and joined their reserve team a year later. He made his first team debut in 2015 and has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the club since then. He has developed into one of the best central midfielders in the game and is considered an essential part of Diego Simeone’s squad. He has played an active role in Atletico’s enviable defensive record this season that has seen them concede just 23 goals in La Liga.

Trippier signed for the Rojiblancos in the summer of 2019 and has played alongside the Ghanaian for almost a year now. He ranks Partey as one of the best midfielders he has played with and was full of praise for the Arsenal target.

On how highly he rates Partey:

“I’d seen him play for Atletico but I didn’t realise how good he is. He’s unbelievable, his physicality, how he breaks up play. Technically he’s got everything. He ranks as one of the best midfielders I’ve played with, but Mousa [Dembele] is Mousa and he’s on a different planet, that guy. Even in training he was in cruise control. Thomas is still a very young player and everyone loves him out here.

Partey has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer. He has a £45 million buyout clause and the Gunners are rumoured to be prepared to stump up the cash and secure the signature of their primary transfer target. Trippier is hopeful of playing with Partey for many more years but does believe he would excel in the English game.

On Partey’s potential move to England:

“Going to the Premier League, who knows? Obviously I want him to stay here because he’s a valuable member to our team. He speaks perfect English, very good English. I don’t think he’d have a problem with the Premier League.”

On whether Partey has asked him about the Premier League:

“Not really. Obviously everyone watches the Premier League. He just asks what’s it like, the style of play, but a few players have. It doesn’t mean they are leaving by the way! It’s just about certain players who play in the league, what it’s like and I just say. The Premier League is the Premier League and is one of the best leagues in the world.”

On whether he would back Partey for success if he were to secure a move to England:

“Thomas will fit in perfectly in the Premier League.”
