Reports in France claim Arsenal want to sign Thiago Silva on a free transfer

Arsenal are interested in signing Paris Saint Germain defender Thiago Silva on a free transfer this summer according to Le 10 Sport.

The Brazilian centre back’s contract with the French club expires in the summer and he has attracted interest from a host of European clubs. PSG hope to keep him at the club until the end of their Champions League campaign in August. Everton, who are coached by his former boss Carlo Ancelotti, were said to have shown an interest in the player.

The Gunners are believed to be in the market for a centre back in the upcoming transfer window. It is being reported that Mikel Arteta has held discussions with the 35 year old about a move to the Emirates.

David Luiz, who played with Thiago Silva for both Paris Saint Germain as well as the Brazilian national team, is believed to have been an intermediary between the player and the North London club. He is keen on being reunited with the Brazilian defender at Arsenal this summer.

Thiago Silva joined PSG from AC Milan in 2012. He has played over 300 games for Paris Saint Germain and was considered one of the best defenders in the world at the peak of his powers. He has earned 89 caps for the Brazilian national team. He is in the twilight of his career but is keen to continue playing at the top level. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal’s interest in the player is concrete. The Gunners have been linked with a host of centre backs in recent months.
