Jordi Osei-Tutu returns to England after his loan with VfL Bochum comes to an end

Jordi Osei-Tutu has returned to London after completing his loan spell at German second division side VfL Bochum.

The 21 year old joined Bochum at the start of the 2019/20 season. He had played as a right back for the Arsenal Under-23 team prior to his move to Germany and began his loan spell in the same role. His defensive capabilities were questioned by some and his early performances saw him drop out of the side from time to time.

The former Reading academy player has strong attacking attributes and was deployed as a right winger for Bochum. It is worth noting that prior to joining the Arsenal academy, he had played on the right flank for Reading’s youth teams. He excelled in this role and became a mainstay in the team for the rest of the season. From time to time, he would drift towards the left wing as well.

Over the course of the campaign, Osei-Tutu scored five goals and provided three assists in 21 games across all competitions. Even more impressively, in his final ten performances for the German second division side, he scored four goals and provided three assists.

The player put in a string of impressive performances for Bochum in the second half of the season and his astounding progress is likely to have caught the eye of Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and academy manager Per Mertesacker.

The Gunners are in need of additional options to increase their firepower and a player they might have previously envisaged as a competitor to Hector Bellerin now looks like he could push the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Reiss Nelson for a place on Arsenal’s right wing.

Arsenal fans will look forward to the prospect of seeing Jordi Osei-Tutu playing at the Emirates next season.
