Arsenal ‘offer contract’ to free agent centre back Malang Sarr

Arsenal have reportedly offered a contract to Malang Sarr, who recently became a free agent after his contract with Nice expired, according to Marca.

Sarr, a Nice academy graduate, made his debut for the French club in 2016. The left footed centre back made a total of 119 appearances for the Ligue 1 side. This season, he made 20 appearances in all competitions. The France under-21 international is one of Europe’s most exciting young defenders and is being tracked by a host of clubs including Red Bull Leipzig. The player has developed his game most recently under the tutelage of Patrick Vieira.

The Gunners recently agreed contract extensions with David Luiz, Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares and will welcome William Saliba to the club this summer but are known to be in the market for another centre back. Sarr would represent a low risk signing considering he is a free agent. Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar has talked about wanting to identify top young talent and bring them to the Emirates. The 21 year old former Nice defender would certainly fall under this bracket.

The North London club have a host of centre backs and could look to move a few of them on. It has been rumoured that the club will look to sell Sokratis this summer, although Gooner Talk understands that the Greek will stay at Arsenal. Dinos Mavropanos, who has been on loan at 1. FC Nürnberg, is another player who has attracted interest from the Bundesliga following an impressive spell in Germany.
