Gabriel Martinelli not expected to be fit until the end of the year
|Arsenal have announced that Gabriel Martinelli is expected to return to full training by the end of 2020. This is a bitter blow to Arsenal as it means he will miss the first half of next season.
The Brazilian suffered a knee injury in training just under a month ago. He underwent surgery and is currently recovering in a knee brace. Arsenal’s medical team is very positive about the progress being made by the 19 year old at this stage of his recovery. He is currently going to the club’s training centre on a daily basis for support and attention from the medical staff.
Mikel Arteta will be devastated to hear that the exciting attacker will spend such a significant period of time on the sidelines.
Martinelli joined the club from Brazilian third division side Ituano last summer. He was expected to spend a majority of his first season in North London playing for the Under-23 team and adapting to a new country. Instead, he broke into the Arsenal first team and established himself as a crucial member of the squad.
This season, Martinelli has scored ten goals and provided four assists in 26 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal. His goal threat and work rate will be a big miss for the team.
