Arteta confident Aubameyang will sign a new contract at Arsenal

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has said he is confident Pierre Emerick Aubameyang will sign a new contract and extend his stay in North London.

Speaking to the media ahead of Arsenal’s penultimate game of the Premier League season against Aston Villa, the boss had the following to say about the club captain:

“To put a date right now is very difficult. I like the way the conversations are going, I like what I’m hearing. I’m sure for both parties, the quicker we can do it, the better for everyone. I am confident he will extend his stay.”

“He is settled in the country and his family are good. I think he can sense – and we’ve told him – how much we like him, how much we value him. I think the connection he has with the fans is unique. I believe he is in the perfect place for him.”

Aubameyang has one year remaining on his deal at the Emirates and has so far not signed a new deal. There has been an abundance of rumours in the media linking him with a move away from the club. Barcelona, Inter Milan and Paris Saint Germain are believed to be interested in signing the player.

Mikel Arteta has been optimistic about Arsenal’s talisman agreeing a new deal with the club right from the start and more recently, speculation has been rife that he will indeed extend his stay in North London.

Since joining Arsenal in January 2018, Aubameyang has scored 66 goals for the club. The only player based in England to have outscored the Gabonese striker during this time is Liverpool’s Mo Salah.

The Gabon international’s brace against Manchester City on Saturday sealed a place in the FA Cup Final for the Gunners and an opportunity for the former Dortmund striker to win his first piece of silverware since moving to England.

Arsenal have reached a cup final in each of Aubameyang’s three seasons at the club. They lost to Manchester City in the League Cup Final in 2018 and to Chelsea in the Europa League Final in 2019. The Arsenal captain will look to make sure the third time’s a charm and Gooners all over the world know that he will be central to success at Wembley in less than two weeks from now and hopefully for many years to come.
