Arsenal intensifying their efforts to sign Willian on a free transfer this summer
|Arsenal are intensifying their efforts to sign Chelsea’s Willian who will be a free agent in the upcoming transfer window, according to Bruno Vicari of ESPN Brazil.
Willian has been on Arsenal’s radar for some time now. It has been reported that the Gunners held discussions with Willian and his representatives before the coronavirus and even offered him a deal.
Due to the financial implications of the pandemic, it is not clear whether that deal is still on the table. This doesn’t change the fact that the North London club are still very keen on bringing the Brazilian to the Emirates. Some members of the Arsenal hierarchy are very optimistic about their chances to seal this deal.
The 31 year old will be out of contract in the summer. It is understood that Chelsea are offering him a two year deal but Willian wants a three year contract. He is very happy in London and if he does not find an agreement with Chelsea, he will look to move to another club based in the city. His agent, Kia Joorabchian, has close ties to the Arsenal hierarchy and this increases the likelihood of a deal to bring him to North London.
The Brazilian attacker has scored 63 goals and provided 62 assists in 339 appearances for Chelsea. This season, he has scored eleven goals and provided nine assists in 47 games across all competitions. Even though he is 31, he is showing no signs of slowing down and has been one of Chelsea’s most important players in the current campaign.
